Though, a 2010 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that taking vitamin D supplements did not enhance the weight-loss process, but vitamin D consumption did result in decreased triglyceride levels.  Additionally, a 2012 study that looked at the impact of supplementing with both calcium and vitamin D found that this combination did not increase total weight-loss, but the combination did lead to an increase of abdominal fat loss.  Researchers have also observed that people who are overweight often also have low levels of vitamin D.  One theory is that the part of your brain that regulates hormones senses the low vitamin D levels and then responds by increasing the release of hunger-stimulating hormones.  Conversely, when your brain senses an adequate or high vitamin D level, the brain triggers hormones that will prevent the growth and maturation of fat cells.  Thus, even though researchers are still studying more regarding the correlation between vitamin D and weight-loss, it can be concluded that vitamin D does play a role in weight-loss.

So, how can you make sure you are obtaining and maintaining your vitamin D levels in the optimal range?  One of the easiest ways is to get more sun exposure.  Another method is to consume fatty fishes and foods that have been fortified with vitamin D.  Alternatively or additionally, you can also take a vitamin D supplement.  Vitamin D supplements come in many different dosages.  To find out which would be the best for your weight-loss and overall health, get a blood test completed, and go over the results with your doctor.
