The idea of traveling whether for business or pleasure can seem difficult, stressful, or even impossible while you are following a weight-loss diet plan.  However, with some preparation, eating right while traveling can be smooth and enjoyable.  Follow these simple guidelines while you are on-the-go instead of putting your weight-loss on hold!

  • Make sure you pack several non-perishable, diet plan friendly snacks in your carry-on for the flight:
    • Nuts or seeds
    • Turkey or Salmon Jerky
    • Protein bars
    • Kale Chips
    • Dry Edamame  
  • Bring a reusable water bottle for filling while at the airport.
  • Pack gym clothes and/or swimsuit in case you get a free moment to get some exercise.
  • Forgot your snacks at home?  It is easy to feel defeated in this moment, but there are still options available at the gate:
    • Starbucks or Peet’s: Often there are single-packaged hard-boiled eggs, Parmesan Cheese Chips, and air-sealed cheese and meat packs.
    • Restaurants: Stick to proteins, such as lettuce-wrapped burgers, chicken, or salmon.
  • Prepare for later!  You may not be hungry right now, but you might be in the air.  Make sure to grab something diet plan friendly for later.
  • Say no to the in-flight food, since most airplane foods are loaded with salt, carbs, and notoriously bad tasting.
  • Say yes to water.
  • Eat every 3-4 hours by setting a stopwatch on your phone if you are traveling across time-zones.
  • Stay occupied!  Read a book, or fall asleep.  Do not remain idle, or you may be tempted to snack out of boredom.
  • If possible, while traveling to your accommodations, stop by a grocery store and pick up some diet plan friendly food options.
  • Make note of any potential grocery stores walking-distance from your accommodations in case there are no appropriate food choices in-house.
  • Continental Breakfasts can be great if you know how to maneuver around the carbs!
    • Proteins: eggs, omelets, Greek-yogurt, ham, sausage, salmon, cheese
    • Fruits: berries
    • Veggies: spinach, kale, artichoke
    • Avoid: pancakes, waffles, or any custard covered fruits
  • Make use of the mini-fridge!
    • Store Greek-yogurts, string cheese, or any foods you enjoy for your snacks.
  • Stay Active: Use the hotel gym or pool to get in a quick workout.
  • Prepare for your trip home with the same precautions
