Who does not love a little extra sunlight, right?  With longer days comes the opportunity to do more fun, active things outdoors.  Here are a few ways you can take advantage of the extra sunlight while still benefiting your weight-loss plan.

Warm Up Your Green Thumbs: Gardening is not only a good way to get moving outdoors but also is a great way to grow healthy fruits and veggies in your own backyard.  If you have tried gardening before, mix things up, and try planting a veggie you have never grown before.  If you do not have a lot of outdoor space to garden, consider growing easy to grow herbs in a well-lit space indoors.

Try Water Aerobics: If you are someone who has “weight-loss” on your to-do list, then water aerobics is a great way to get low-impact physical activity and a perfect complement to a clean diet plan.  If the pool is outdoors, then you can also get in some sunshine while working out.  Water workouts help to alleviate pressure on the joints, increase flexibility, and increase muscle strength.

Plan a Healthy Picnic: Get with a friend or that special someone, and pack a basket full of yumminess.  If you are short on time, grab some healthy weight-loss snacks.  Make this a combo deal, and add a walk before or after the meal.  If you are not sure where to have a picnic, check out your local Parks and Recreation website for beautiful places to picnic.  Every location has its hidden gems.

Visit the Local Farmer’s Market: Consider supporting the local farmers while adding local produce to your favorite weight-loss dishes.  Aside from supporting your local economy, the benefits of eating local produce are numerous.  Among the most important of these benefits is the fact that local food is typically more nutritious.  Ask questions about how certain foods are grown.  Get to know some of your local farmers and what produce they have in season.  This trip can be fun and educational.

Kick Your Weight-Loss in Gear (pun intended): Biking is a great way to connect with nature while getting your heart racing.  You do not have to have a bike to go biking.  Some areas have bike rental programs that you can take advantage utilize.
