Eco Garden Box easy at home organic gardening

We have heard it everywhere and from everyone “EAT WHOLE ORGANIC FOODS” or “EAT AS ORGANIC AS POSSIBLE”! It is in the media, it is visibly promoted through our Farmers Markets, even the First Lady of the United States has made it her personal crusade to educate us on the importance of eating natural “non processed” foods. So what is holding some of us back?

Often times when I meet with my clients I hear a lot of excuses of why they don’t or can’t eat whole organic foods. The excuses that I hear most often are “I live alone and vegetables just go bad before I can eat them” or “my kids and/or my husband wont eat them (or try them) so it’s just a waste of money”. In my five years as a Health Educator I have pretty much heard it all!

Well today I want to share with you something that not only has helped me to eat whole organic foods, but enjoy the process of growing my own! NO….you don’t have to have a green thumb, a huge plot of land, or even a yard for that matter. It’s called an Earth Box! The Earth Box can be used to grow whatever your heart desires, takes up very limited space, self watering, and above all really fun to do! I bought my Earth Box about seven weeks ago and have had a blast growing vegetables myself for the first time. I am growing spinach, brussels sprouts, and snap peas (which by the way, are SUPER CUTE).

What I love about the Earth Box is that ANYONE and I mean ANYONE can grow one. The Earth Box is great for kids because it…. number one, gets them off the video games and it’s also something active each day that they can do out doors. Now I know for a fact if your kids have spent the time to grow their own veggies, they most likely will want to at least try them. The Earth Box is also great if you do not have a yard or room to plant your own garden. The Earth Box can fit on a tiny back apartment deck or a front step, it also has wheels so its really easy to move around (no lifting)!

While buying my Earth Box, a more “mature” woman was telling me that she had one and she was able to make her own home grown salads every night for almost three months before she had to replant it. Now that is cool! She was also bragging about how she could easily roll it around her yard to get the proper amount of sunlight required for her plants, then role it over to the hose when it needed water added to the self watering device. She sold me!

Well now that I have excited you into getting your own Earth Box growing, you might be asking yourself “where can I get one”? The good news is that Greenlite Medicine will be selling the Earth Box on site in our offices provided by Almaden Valley Nursery. Also when you purchase an Earth Box you will also receive a coupon for 20% off all plants and soil from Almaden Valley Nursery to garnish your Earth Box. The Earth Box is SUPER easy to put together and comes with some great ideas for what to grow. Now I know your probably saying in your head….”its going to be winter I cant grow anything in winter”. Yes you can! There are several options for you and here are just a few suggestions:

  • Arugula
  • Lettuce
  • Cabbage
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Cauliflower
  • Broccoli
  • Snap peas
  • Onions
  • Radish
  • Turnips…..the list goes on!

With every season change you can change your harvest! You can do an herb garden, cutting flowers, summer veggies be as creative as you want OR keep it simple…maybe just salad greens. Theresa Ferro at Almaden Valley Nursery helped me put mine together because MY main goal was to make it look cute. Theresa had great ideas and she is extremely knowledgeable! I started my Earth Box with “starter” plants but you can also start straight from seeds.

Well NO MORE EXCUSES GUYS! We are making it as easy as it gets for you to have fun growing your own whole organic foods! Be creative, it’s actually interesting to see how some of these vegetable develop and to watch them go through all their amazing stages…..just beautiful! Also you might want to keep in mind that believe it or not, the holidays are right around the corner and this would be a unique, creative, and thoughtful gift for someone special.

Happy Growing! Please send us pictures of your Earth Box we would LOVE to share them!
