recipe_imageSummer get-togethers, such as the July 4th holiday, probably make you think of barbequing beef patties, toasting hamburger buns, scooping potato salads, and slicing strawberry shortcakes.  However, there are numerous other tasty, low-carb options that are perfect for sunny celebrations and will not ruin your weight-loss diet plan.  Below are some healthy foods ideas to help you stay on track that will still please the entire crowd.

Ditch the beef and go with the turkey, vegan, and bison burgers – all of which are high-protein, low-carb, and tasty.  For example, try mixing ground turkey or bison, diced red onions, diced green bell pepper, sea salt and pepper to taste, and a small squirt of dijon mustard.  Make your patties and throw them on the grill.  When the patties have been cooked to your desire, top them off with a slice of avocado, tomato, and of course lettuce, and enjoy!  For sauce lovers, try this sugar-free barbeque sauce.

Kebabs!  Whether they are chicken, lamb, or shrimp, kebabs are lean, yummy, and Greenlite-friendly.  For example, you can get a pack of organic chicken breasts and chop them into cube-sized pieces.  Also, chop red onions, green or red bell peppers, or other vegetables.  Season everything with your favorite salt-free, flavorful seasonings and some lemon juice.  Place the chicken and assorted vegetables onto skewers and then grill them on high heat for about 15-20 minutes and enjoy!  For beef lovers, try this juicy sirloin and summer vegetables kebabs with chimichurri.
