It is no surprise that many women in the United States are not pleased with how their body looks. In fact, a gender and body image study done in 2013 concluded that only 11% of women over the age of 45 in the United States reported being satisfied with the appearance of their body.  While some may think that body image is a woman’s issue, research has shown that men and women have both been impacted by societal beauty norms. Body image dissatisfaction is a major risk factor for unhealthy behaviors, including eating disorders.
