My father passed away at the young age of 64. He had suffered his first heart attack at the age of 51 and suffered with diabetes and coronary heart disease for the rest of his life. At the age of 55, I saw myself following in my father’s footsteps. When my blood tests said I had high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and high risk for heart disease, I decided I needed to get help with my weight loss and I knew I needed professional assistance. I knew there were clinics that could help me; this was not a complicated process. I googled weight loss clinics in San Jose, then I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to give GreenLite Medicine a try.
My experience with GreenLite began on May 22, 2015, and has been extremely positive. Everyone has been nice and friendly. I am always greeted with a smile and a welcoming spirit. Josie and my other counselors have helped me strategize a system that works for me. I believe one of my pillars of success in losing weight has been the fact I have to be accountable to someone other than myself to look at my results for the week. I don’t want to dread my weekly meeting, I want to look forward to it, and be proud of my successful decisions I had to make, to show a loss for the week.
I am a high school football coach and still play competitive softball in a couple leagues during spring and summer months. I own a Stairmaster climber in my garage. My regime is to attempt to stair climb one hour a day, 5 days a week. I occasionally change up my routine, but I have a favorite workout involving interval training that I use most of the time. I watch sports, news, Ridiculousness, Cops, and anything else on TV to help pass the time. My favorite is watching the Giants play while getting my workout in. I have been happily married for 28 years, and throughout the journey, my wife, Judy, and I has been very supportive throughout this process. We enjoy going on walks and exercising together outside in the fresh air.
Since working with GreenLite, I’ve learned to mix eggs, turkey sausage, onions, mushrooms, and cheese and then bake them together in a muffin pan. That gives me an instant breakfast when I am on the run in the morning, or a quick snack in the middle of the day. Two minutes in the mircowave and its hot and delicious. Beef jerky, almonds, apples, and cheese mid-day snacks I use to keep me from eating chips, pizza, and bread.
I am not being tormented by my image in the mirror anymore. I can look in the mirror and like what I am seeing. Although, I am only halfway to my goal weight, the benefit I mentally get has made this experience completely worth it. I have more confidence in myself and I am not embarrassed by my appearance or how my clothes are fitting anymore. For the first time in many years, I am happy with the image looking back at me in the mirror.
